It’s the best time of year to enjoy storytime with our list of holiday children’s books! There are several holiday books that are perfect for creating lasting memories while instilling a love of reading. Here are our favorites.
Clifford’s First Christmas
When it comes to holiday children’s books, Clifford the Big Red Dog is certainly one of our favorites. In this delightful read, he experiences his first Christmas in this fun picture book by Norman Bridwell. Follow along as Clifford gets stuck in a Christmas stocking and gets rescued by Santa!
How Do Dinosaurs Say Happy Chanukah?
Enjoy this fun book by Jane Yolen. In it, dinosaur kids frolic through the Festival of Lights as only mischievous little dinosaurs can. A wonderful way to introduce children to the joys and warmth of Chanukah.
My First Kwanzaa
Enjoy a little girl’s first Kwanzaa in this beautiful picture book by Karen Katz. My First Kwanzaa features double-page illustrations for each of the seven days of the holiday and wonderfully introduces Kwanzaa’s Seven Principles in a manner children can understand, unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, purpose, creativity, cooperative economics, and faith.
The Christmas Story
A list of holiday children’s books must include the Christmas Story, and ours does as well. In this board book, Autumn Ward thoughtfully presents the beauty and mystery of the Christmas Story for the young with enchanting illustrations.
‘Twas The Night Before Christmas On The Farm
In this adorable retelling of the Christmas classic, Craig Manning delights with an irresistible look at Santa’s arrival through the eyes of sweet farm animals. Likewise, with rhymes and the best illustrations, reading this book on Christmas Eve will be a joy.
The Story Of Hanukkah
Originally a picture book, The Story of Hanukkah is a wonderful introduction to the holiday. For Holiday children’s books, this book tells the story of Hanukkah with solemnity but while also embracing the joy of family, fun, food, and good times. Written by David Adler and exquisitely illustrated by Jill Weber, The Story of Hanukkah features artwork in traditional holiday blue tones.
Christmas In The Manger
The story of the first Christmas is told elegantly and simply in this exceptionally made board book. Featuring a soft padded cover with rounded edges, and with gentle illustrations by Felicia Bond and written by Nola Buck, (the pen name of Laura Godwin), Christmas In The Manager introduces children to the story of the Nativity in an accessible format little ones will love.
The end of the year is a time for reflection, a time to embrace peace, love of family, and community. It’s also a time of great fun, storytelling, and tradition, and for the youngest among us even more so, everything is new, everything is exciting. Likewise, enjoy reading these special books to your children and grandchildren and have the best of times this holiday season.
