For over 45 years, the incredible teachers at Woodcrest Preschool have provided children starting at 18 months with a warm and nurturing environment where kids feel safe to grow.  Our curriculum is specially designed by our teachers using all the latest in early learning best practices to prepare children for the next chapter in life.  Our curriculum is filled with a healthy mix of academics, play, routines, yoga, gardening, cooking, music, art, math, pre-reading, social studies, animal exploration, and much more.  The most important part of early learning is having fun and learning to work with others.  We use monthly themes that allow our teachers showcase their creativity and passion for teaching the material to our kiddo’s.

What is the minimum number of days I can enroll my child?
We offer between two and five days a week, any days based on availability.  Woodcrest Preschool in Sherman Oaks offers full time and part time options.

What kind of training do your teachers have?

All staff at Woodcrest Preschool have the necessary ECE units and experience to teach in an early childhood facility.  All staff are trained in CPR, Health & Safety, and First Aid. In addition, all staff are cleared through the Department of Justice and FBI.

What is Kid Reports?

Kid Reports is used by Woodcrest Preschool to share pictures, daily routines, lesson plans, and videos with parents via smart phone or desktop.  This is a great way to stay connected with your child throughout the day.

What is Procare?

Procare care in the industry leader in childcare center management software.  Woodcrest preschool uses Procare to monitor time and attendance.  When you check in the center a ticket is generated, once the ticket is generated it is handed to the teacher in order to chick in the child.  This is repeated upon pickup.  No ticket, no pickup.

Daily schedules are developed with the following in mind:

  • Our teachers work in small groups and one on one to provide enriching age appropriate activities that stimulate growth and development.
  • The school provides time for outdoor play that is both structured and unstructured.
  • The day is blocked to provide at minimum two large blocks of time for child-directed learning and theme based activities.

All days will include:

  • Morning and Afternoon large group Time
  • Small-Group Activities at tables and at centers
  • Theme and holiday based learning centers through the classroom
  • Outdoor play and structured activities
  • Snack and meals
  • Rest time

Arrival

At Woodcrest preschool, children are welcomed by their teachers as they enter the classroom.  Parents will give the teacher the Procare admission ticket to sign in to the classroom.  Children will then participate in table and floor activities and get ready for the morning program.

Snack

Children are provided with snacks and a drink while they unwind from the morning activities.  Teachers sing songs, go over routines, and talk about manners.

Transition

Children clean up from lunch and transition to rest time.

Enrichment

Woodcrest provides many opportunities for extra enrichment.  Woodcrest contracts with dance teachers, karate instructors, science instructors, gymnastics instructors, sports instructors and many more.  Inquire with the Director to learn more about enrichment.

Whole-Group Circle Time

In the early morning, the teachers will assemble the children on one of our colorful theme based carpets to go over morning routines such as days of the week, day of the month, number of the week, holidays, color of the week, sing songs, discuss character and read books relating to the theme.

Outdoor Play

Outdoor play is an important part of our program.  Children enjoy structured and unstructured play outdoors.  As part of the lesson plan, teachers set out theme based activities, books, and toys. 

Rest Time and Quiet Work Time

Children nap or rest quietly during this down time. Teachers play music, rub backs, and sing songs to provide a calming environment. 

Small Group Learning Centers and Activities

After the whole group circle time, children transition into learning centers around the room.  These learning centers include:  blocks, dramatic play, reading center, manipulatives, science and sensory, free art and writing.

Lunch

Children wash their hands while teachers set up the table for lunch.  Children can bring their own lunch or eat our hot lunch.  Lunch time is a great time for routines, talking to friends and connecting with teachers. 

Animal Exploration

Woodcrest works with Reptacular Animals to introduce animals to the children.  These animals are from all over the world and provide an opportunity for children to learn about habitats, kindness, ecology, and geography.

Potty Training

Teachers will work with your child to help with potty training.  Teachers communicate often with parents to discuss how the process is going at school as well as learning about at home support.  Teachers are very patient with the children and help relieve potty training pressure.
