Daily schedules are developed with the following in mind:
- Our teachers work in small groups and one on one to provide enriching age appropriate activities that stimulate growth and development.
- The school provides time for outdoor play that is both structured and unstructured.
- The day is blocked to provide at minimum two large blocks of time for child-directed learning and theme based activities.
All days will include:
- Morning and Afternoon large group Time
- Small-Group Activities at tables and at centers
- Theme and holiday based learning centers through the classroom
- Outdoor play and structured activities
- Snack and meals
- Rest time
At Woodcrest preschool, children are welcomed by their teachers as they enter the classroom. Parents will give the teacher the Procare admission ticket to sign in to the classroom. Children will then participate in table and floor activities and get ready for the morning program.
Children are provided with snacks and a drink while they unwind from the morning activities. Teachers sing songs, go over routines, and talk about manners.
Children clean up from lunch and transition to rest time.
Woodcrest provides many opportunities for extra enrichment. Woodcrest contracts with dance teachers, karate instructors, science instructors, gymnastics instructors, sports instructors and many more. Inquire with the Director to learn more about enrichment.
Whole-Group Circle Time
In the early morning, the teachers will assemble the children on one of our colorful theme based carpets to go over morning routines such as days of the week, day of the month, number of the week, holidays, color of the week, sing songs, discuss character and read books relating to the theme.
Outdoor play is an important part of our program. Children enjoy structured and unstructured play outdoors. As part of the lesson plan, teachers set out theme based activities, books, and toys.
Rest Time and Quiet Work Time
Children nap or rest quietly during this down time. Teachers play music, rub backs, and sing songs to provide a calming environment.
Small Group Learning Centers and Activities
After the whole group circle time, children transition into learning centers around the room. These learning centers include: blocks, dramatic play, reading center, manipulatives, science and sensory, free art and writing.
Children wash their hands while teachers set up the table for lunch. Children can bring their own lunch or eat our hot lunch. Lunch time is a great time for routines, talking to friends and connecting with teachers.
Woodcrest works with Reptacular Animals to introduce animals to the children. These animals are from all over the world and provide an opportunity for children to learn about habitats, kindness, ecology, and geography.
Teachers will work with your child to help with potty training. Teachers communicate often with parents to discuss how the process is going at school as well as learning about at home support. Teachers are very patient with the children and help relieve potty training pressure.
